Integrate Gallery and WordPress

I finally integrated Gallery with the Blix theme by taking the following link as a reference. It’s not a simple mission to do that, I really hope there will be such a plugin out soon.

PIXELPOST – Small Photoblog Software

A hot weekend

I really have not updated this blog for some while. Seems I was not too busy nor too lazy, but I just felt there’s nothing special or new to post and share with the possible readers.

We ran out to watch the movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” during this weekend. The movie is okay, maybe a little bit less than what I expected. The cast is good, and some gossip news makes it more famous (I assume you know what I am saying). I personally would prefer this movie as a marriage comedy more. The dramatics are turned out in a way of war, however. It’s not totally my preferred style though.

I spent one or two hours last night to configure the Gallery v1 on this site. I have been a loyal user of it and I still think it’s one of the best album software out of there. So I just make a copy here in case I want to use it for my new photos, including my baby’s of course.

This weekend is really hot here in mid-west. Hope it will be cooler next week so we can also save some bucks on our bill. :P

Parents got U.S. visa

This morning (June 14 China time) my parents just got their visas to US in Shanghai. They are going to spend several months with us here in this summer. The greatest thing is they are going to see their granddaughter’s birth and we are going to share the big happiness together! Yao Yao’s gotta meet her dear grandparents in her first days. :) And they will help us a lot on taking care of the little one for sure, that’s another important thing for me and my wife.

Anyway, it’s really good for all of us.

Long time no update

Actually it’s only about one week. But the truth is one week is not a short time in network era. Things just change so fast even by seconds.

Well, it’s already June. It’s very hot here in Midwest these days since last weekend. So the summer is right here and the short short spring just disappears in no time, whew.

My baby is going to join us in less than 100 days. Yes, that’s really exciting! We just cannot help waiting to see what she looks like. We have prepared most of the stuff for her coming. And today her first box of diapers just arrived. :) We are just running a weblog for her and I have also prepared a photo album for baby photos, though that’s still a little bit early. I also built a photoblog to record those coming precious moments in my life, also in my wife and my baby girl’s. All these will have their links here soon.

Long weekend

I spent the Memorial Day long weekend on migrating my baby’s blog from Blogger to WordPress following this guide, and also established a photoblog using pixelpost. Pixelpost is a very good tool to make pohtoblog and it’s theme compatible. I downloaded one from pixelpost homepage and tweaked it to fit my own taste. And I also found a plugin to include the thumbnail of the latest photo from pixelpost in WordPress. I think this is a cool way to combine both blogs very well.

UPDATE: Just found a nice addon to include the latest thumbnail from pixelpost on other web site using HTML but not PHP.

Test drive of Gallery2 beta3

I tried Gallery2 beta3 today, though I learned that it’s developed about three years ago. The biggest difference, IMHO, comparing with Gallery1 is it needs database e.g. MySQL to run. The interface also changes quite a lot. I have not tried all the features yet but I feel it’s more powerful than Gallery1 (for sure). But I do feel it’s noticeably slower than Gallery1! I tried both on my localhost so the interference of net traffic can be ignored. I don’t know if it’s caused by the data retrieve from database or not. Anyway, its speed is not satisfactory.

Out-of-box package to experience web server and blog

Just read a guide at UrbanGiraffe to establish your own web server on Windows PC with PHP and MySql database installed. This is a very good package if you want to try your own web server and/or your own weblog but don’t want to handle the hassels of installing and configuring PHP and MySql. I tried it on my home PC and installed WordPress just like a breeze.

Upgraded to WP

I just upgraded WordPress to its latest version following this guide. It’s pretty easy and very smooth if you have backuped all the files you have modified, e.g., themes, plugins and files in the wp-admin folder. So far it’s working well and I have not found any changes yet, except the green bars on the activated theme and plugins. :) Hope everything is fine.

Google personalized homepage

Google personalized homepage is something like My Yahoo! but comes in a Google style. I feel it’s more “personalized” and neater than its competitors. If you are addicted to Google, you got to try it.
